My husband has slowly but surely made me more of a football fan. I can honestly say this Super Bowl is the very first one I have watched from start to finish. Hooray me! I guess I am making steps towards being the die hard football fan my husband wants me to be...haha.

Thrift Store Finds

I love thrift store shopping…

and so I got the hubby to go with me on an adventure to our local Goodwill. We really did find some treasures (random ones, but treasures nonetheless)!

This lovely old chair was only a few dollars! I think it is simply charming. It has replaced my old desk chair...I may paint it eventually. Not sure!

These random plates are for a dining room wall project I am working on. Basically, I hope to have a wall of plates someday! These .50 cent plates have started off my collection.

This tray just caught my eye and for $1.99 I couldn't NOT buy it. I mean, there has to be something I can do with it. Haha!

Finacing that Spring Wardrobe- Part I

While Spring's new & wonderful styles are hanging in stores now (making you look at your current winter wardrobe with a bit of dissatisfaction), you may not have the funds to put towards them. This doesn't have to be so. Why don't you "recycle" your wardrobe by selling the old in order to bring on the new? (yes, I have mentioned this in a previous post:).

E-BAY, my dears. That is where your dreams of new Spring threads can come true.

As you consider listing your clothing items, there are a couple of things to keep in mind in order to be more sell-able.

1. Presentation- iron if there are wrinkles or get it dry cleaned! Make sure that the clothing item looks as new as possible (that doesn't mean lie about it being new :-p, but making it look as if it is is definitely a good thing!).
2. Pictures- do not underestimate their importance. Make sure that you have good lighting (natural is best) and that the quality is clear. The more the potential buyer can see the true colors and quality, the better.
3. Price- keep in mind that while you may treasure that vintage dress, others may not see its charm as much as you do. Don't over price it. You will find it harder to get bids and you don't need that b/c... that Spring wardrobe is waiting! (always remember to include a realistic shipping cost as well).

I have sold several items on E-bay over the years and it has definitely served my wardrobe well. Try it out for yourself.

It is a lovely snow day and I am making sure to soak up every second of it-- sipping tea, looking out at the winter wonderland, listening to Edith Paif (btw, you are too if you have your speakers on) and playing with tissue paper. Now this is my kind of day.

I came up with this DIY project, I guess you could say...paper flowers to accessorize my mannequin & bring a little color to my bloggin' room.

I twisted some rope and looped it around a few times. Just wanted a simple twist in it...didn't try too hard.

It turns out I am not the paper flower expert...haha. After some crinkling and tucking I had some tissue paper that somewhat resembled a messy little bouquet.

I simply clipped them to the rope with little clothespins I had lying around &...

...there you go! Paper flower necklace/thingy (my husband kept peering over with very inquisitive eyes...I think he was confused. Lol).

Ooooh I love snow days.

Ok, so today is an official blah day.

I am in leggings and my favorite over-sized sweatshirt. Oh and UGGS (b/c my feet are freeeeezing)!

Don't plan on changing either...well, maybe...only b/c my hubs is taking me out to Qdoba (love cheese right now) for dinner!

Since I have no desire to doll myself up today I was perusing over some of the new Spring 2011 trends for some inspiration.

Natural seems to be a recurring theme in the upcoming trends & I love it.

It means you can get away with little to no make-up and no time needed for hair. Just toss it up to the side with a hair tie! Voila! Au Naturale, my sweets.

Just wanted to share this as I sit on my bum...completely and utterly unfashionably natural. Haha! Now back to loafing around the apartment ( & yes, I do need to soak it up while the baby is still in the bump ;).

5 Maternity Fashion No No's

I found these @ She Knows Pregnancy Fashion and I am glad I did. I need these little reminders now that I am making my way through this pregnancy...at a steady waddling rate ;).

5 maternity fashion mistakes

1. Forgetting your personal style: Don’t start wearing tailored maternity dresses if your pre-pregnancy wardrobe consisted of jeans and flowy tops. Find maternity clothes that are the style you love, but cut to fit your pregnant body.
2. Waiting too long to buy maternity clothes: You will be more comfortable and get more bang for your buck if you buy clothes that fit well before you start popping out of them.
3. Buying all your maternity clothes at once: It is impossible to tell exactly how your body will look at Week 28 when you are at Week 12. Buy a few pieces as your body changes, but hold off on buying everything at once (especially with maternity bras).
4. Wearing large “tent-like” dresses : Avoid the tent look through buying clothes that fit and gently hug your growing bump. Look for details like an empire-waist with a tie back or side-shirring to give your body form and style.
5. Not pampering yourself: You will feel more put together and sexy if you indulge yourself a little and get a pedicure and a fabulous haircut.

Those are great reminders!

I have found my bump fashion inspiration from Heidi Klum. While she is a supermodel capable of pulling off a preggo belly like its this season's hottest look, she has also created fashionable maternity lines that really help to give pregnant ladies more edge to their look. I thank her for that!

I have already added a couple skinny jeans & a sweater from her one line, Loved. I am already appreciating them greatly.

Drab? No...try FAB!

A little walk with my little family seemed like a great time to share one of my outfits I put together that is very pregnancy worthy. It is all about comfort now for me, but that doesn't mean drab. I have been coming up with so many ideas that I hope will work out for me & bump :).

The blazer and top are from Forever21...the leggings are Express & the boots are Steve Madden! Oh and the necklace is an old Banana Republic heart necklace I still adore after having it for over 2 yrs. The expressions are just plain Camille.

I am just over four months, so that means five more! I think it will get more difficult to come up with outfits as my body continues to change, but I am up for the challenge :)!

Although I am in a "Re-vamp" stage (hence the lack of posts and the all over stand still of progress on my blog : D) I wanted to get this whole pregnant fashion blogging under way (with or without a new logo or look and feel)!

It has taken me a few months to find a way to evolve into a "bumper" that sports a bump in a fashionable way. I must confess I most definitely still have my frumpy, "I don't know what to wear days" frequently, but I think I am definitely making head way towards knowing how to be pregnant and fabulous at the same time.

There are a couple things I have been loving since finding out about our little lovey in my tumbly.Those being...

1)Bella Band- a good, discreet way of wearing your pre-maternity jeans a little longer! This band goes around your waist and holds up un-buttoned jeans. I broke down and bought one a couple of weeks ago and let me tell you...a good investment. It holds up my jeans and also smooths out the bump a little for those fat days when I feel like I am hanging out everywhere.

2) Loved by Heidi Klum Mat. Jeans- again, I refuse to be a frumpy preggo lady, SO as soon as I saw the positive sign I started looking around at different jean options. I came across Heidi's maternity line. I currently have my eye on the pair of skinny jeans below (getting closer to 17 weeks it won't be long before I need to ditch the old jeans). Love.

3) Madden Girl Zeda Boot- they have nothing to do with being pregnant. I just really want them! They go all the way to the knee...oh yeh. Here's to hoping I don't swell too much and I can fit my feet in them : D

Being pregnant is almost like your body being taken over by an alien....really! I haven't felt like myself for weeks now. Every day there is something else I notice about my body or emotions that I have never experienced before. While it is a very beautiful thing, I am exhausted and am hoping that the 2nd trimester is a little better! :)

I am finally able to drag myself onto my laptop and give this ol' blog of mine some love. Fall is in full swing and I am loving it. I am actually wearing cardis and boots now (I don't care if its still upper 70s and even low 80s here still)! I will never miss the opportunity to dress for Fall. No way!

I shot some pics today while resting & dreaming of being a mama...enjoy!

Oh Baby, Baby....

So there has been a reason I haven't been so good at updating this lovely blog of mine and that reason is....

WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!!

(baby at 7 wks 4 days...we didn't get an updated 12 wk u/s!)
We are beyond ecstatic about it. I can't stop smiling. We actually waited until 12 weeks to tell all. It was so hard to hold it in, but so worth it. Now I am proclaiming it to the world!

With the recent BIG change of events, I am considering re-vamping my blog. I am thinking more of a mama-fashionista view. I will not become a bag lady during this pregnancy and fully plan on keeping up to date with the current looks....as much as I can with a baby bump. :) I would like to share that journey with all as a new mama.

Any thoughts on the possible change?

Ps. Going to start reading Vogue to baby...got to have a fashionable little buba! ;)

Your Inner Soldier- Fall Trend #2

I let a very cute military inspired jacket go! Nooo. I saw it at Marshalls and thought "Ooohh I'll just come back for it". Bad. Very bad. It was gone next time. Sad.

I realized that while I won't be able to show off a cute new jacket, I do have a look that exudes military.

Army green dress with gold buckles and pockets. I paired it with boots (would be great with over the knee boots too!) and a cardi. I also threw on some gold bangles.

I took off the sweater for a more going out look. Ps. This is my "blogging area" aka sun room.

It's time for you to get in touch with your inner soldier.

This is actually my favorite look, b/c it has a touch of the military fashion. It is not overdone and I like that. This jacket, Sgt. Pepper Jacket ($29.99) is from K-Mart *gasp*. I haven't been to K-Mart since I was a kid, but this makes me want to check it out again!

Forever21 dress (under $25). This kind of dress with some accessories (as shown) and you've got a great feminized military look!

Also Forever21 (under $25). I like how casual this one looks. Could be worn with jeans or even a skirt or dress....It instantly adds that look without having to do much more!

Pair this Modcloth skirt with an over-sized sweater, tights and boots...bingo!

I thought I wouldn't be into the cargo look (considering that I always try and talk my hubby out of wearing cargo shorts haha), but I am pleasantly surprised by these from Forever21. Paired with the right shoes and accessories I definitely think this is a good item to own.

Naughty Monkey boots. The buttons make it military!

Some people are more courageous when it comes to trying new things in fashion. I haven't been able to see myself wearing these. I tend to lean more towards the classic look (sometimes I wish I would push myself a little bit more to try more fashion statements), but for those of you that have a little bit more OOMPH...sporting these this season may work for you! Btw, these are Marc Jacobs (maybe another reason I don't see myself wearing them. $$ haha).

So there it is. It is as easy as throwing on a jacket! Don't try too hard...you can make it work easily. :)

NY Fashion Week Spring 2011 is now in full swing! Oh how I wish I could be one of the many attendees, but ehhhh no. I am at home in Charlotte, NC drooling over pictures of it online. A girl can dream though.

Over The Knees please! -Fall Trend #1-

I have decided to take the hottest Fall trends and spotlight each one by one over the next month. I don't want to cram all of them together in one post...no! Yucky! Make sure to look out for my series of posts all about this year's Fall Fashions.

By now you must have noticed one of the biggest trends quickly approaching us this Fall. You may have seen the knee-high boots that were very prevalent last Fall, but I am talking about something even better. OVER the knee boots. Oh yes. I would be wearing them already if it weren't for the fact that its still over 90 degrees here on Sept 1st (I don't have much hope for a real crisp Fall this year in Charlotte). I don't care though! I WILL be wearing these high, wonderful things this season.

The over the knee look is truly killer. Look & see. I think you will soon agree (hey, that rhymed)!

Recyling Outfits. It's ok! Promise.

I just spent an AMAZING weekend in DC with some of my favorite people. I do mean amazing too. It was truly the best time...perfect really. I may still be catching up on sleep, but it doesn't matter. It was way more than worth it. I heart you all!

Anyways, one topic of conversation stuck with me and I thought "I need to blog about this!". We were talking about wearing an outfit to an event only once and someone snaps a pic of you...DONE. You can't wear it again. I think yes & no. Why? It is quite frustrating that you invest in an outfit only to wear it once and then you quickly stuff it in the back of your closet to never see the light of day again. Boo. I say no.

I think it's time to think about this. It's not only a waste of money, but also a misuse of a perfectly good article of clothing! There has to be something we can all do to stop this madness!

How about "recycling", ladies? Now, here's what I mean...don't get all worried that I want you to convert your clothing by snipping and sewing. Haha. When you do wear that new dress or garment to something don't just toss it aside after wards to never be worn again. Yes, maybe wait maybe a few months to dig it up again (just to make sure there is a buffer time for people to forget a little :-p). After you muster up the courage to dig it up again pretend like it's something completely new. You can make it new! Yes, you really can. I believe in you.

Think about how you can spruce it up. Add a new look to it...something different from last time. Maybe something to go over it like a jacket, blazer or cardi. A necklace? Shoes?...even a pair of solid tights. I think that even wearing your hair and make-up differently may throw people off from ever thinking you dared to step out in an "old" look.

If Beckham can, so can you! Look, all she did was mix up her bag and hair.

She did it again! She's even a celeb. Honestly, I wouldn't notice it was the same...she changed it up with simple things.

This is a great example b/c if you have a wedding to attend or some other special event you can change it like this. Hayden simply changed the shoes and added a belt. Oh, and her hair!

Audrina has a great look here. Sandal swap! She could even do a pump with this to change it even more.

Becky Newton didn't even change ONE thing. Yes, yes I am sure the fashion police went wild about this, but who cares. She looks fabulous! If you look amazing...honestly, that's what people remember.

Same dress, same shoe. Different accessories and jacket.

Obviously this isn't anything formal for an event. but I am trying to make a point. Have you gotten that? haha. She wore it many times...and it looks different each time.

Let me know your thoughts b/c I know EVERYONE has their own opinion on this subject. I'd love to hear.

I think it's time to re-asses wardrobes. Use what you have for once. There is no such thing as "I have nothing to wear" (most of the time). You just need to work at it.

A Peak @ Fall Trends

This week I have been writing a fashion article for a magazine, Swoop in LA. I decided to center mine on the Fall trends for this year. Since I am writing about that I thought I would give you a sneak peak at what you should be looking for as well.

This short video really gave me a good look @ what I should be writing about. Maybe they will help you to dress to impress this Fall! (don't worry, it's not long at all. Very concise and to the point).

I think of an Urban Warrior when I see these looks for the Fall...they are really casually refined. The good thing is some of them are staples you may already have; such as, blazers and over-sized cardigans.

I am excited about trying out some of these styles! How about you?

I am about to spend my entire weekend (24/7) with three kiddies under the age of 7 (ah!), so I wanted to make sure I got my blogging in before I leave! :)

We spent July 4th at the in-laws and it was so lovely. They have a big house out in the country with rolling fields, a barn & pond. I got to play with the horses, really get some relaxation & watch fireworks (of course).

What I wore-- a comfy outfit which included Gap tank, Forever 21 shorts (with bow belt), gold clasp bracelet & Target sunglasses.

I got invited to attend an event hosted by Charlotte Style Magazine and I made sure that I could attend. I mean seriously, you don't even need to ask me. I will not pass up the opportunity to attend a fashion event! The event was a Men's Appreciation event held in downtown Charlotte at a very cool dessert bar, Crave.

The most fashionable people in Charlotte, as featured in Charlotte Style Magazine, were some of the attendees. It was so much fun seeing everyone dressed to kill...I was people watching ALL night. Everyone was enjoying cocktails, desserts, manicures, massages & a fashion show! Try to enjoy my photos I snapped
(but it may be hard b/c *sigh* i Phones aren't known for their picture quality).

If I could live in any other time it would, without a doubt, be in the 1940's. I mean, the war and all may put a damper on it, but the fashion, music & dancing would make it all ok! :)

Styles from the runway that completely exude '40s fashion.... (Lanvin, etc)

Now, more realistic ideas that can help you find pieces for your wardrobe... (Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Forever21, Victoria Secret & MODCLOTH)

Look for higher waists, form-fitting styles, more length in skirts & dresses...you'll start seeing 1940's!

Ebay & Fashion. Really.

Like I said, E-bay is pretty wonderful. It has made shopping for fashionable items on the site very simple & fun. There is a specific page for Fashion! In fact, they have a section where experts in fashion give their opinion on E-bay and what to look for on it this season.

"I love eBay because I can literally buy anything in the world. The fashion on eBay isn't limited to just one season, one set of trends or my neighborhood. It's the ultimate closet!"- Annabel Tollman (Celebrity Stylist to Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Simpson, etc.)

You can click on a certain brand and all the items that are listed on E-bay will come up. For example, I clicked on Lanvin and this is what came up...all Lanvin items!

If you've ever thought "Eww. E-bay is yucky. It's used clothes that are dirty". Think again! Take a look, try it out...even sell your own clothes and then buy more with your earnings. Refresh your wardrobe with E-bay!

Rompers are the IT item this season (to me anyways...I don't know about what everyone else thinks). I have been drooling over a few different ones from a few different places. I can't wait to get my first one! I know, I sound like I have to wait and save up for items...well, that's because I do! Oh, the joys of being married and being on a lovely budget :).

So I am married, working & then also have my wifey duties around the house. I am sure some of you know what that's like. As busy as I get with all of that, I still want to look and feel fashionable and stylish! There is no reason why you can't make a house a home and also look chic!

I picked out a few outfits & had my hubby snap shots of me posing around the house. No, I never dress like this around the house. I'm usually in my pajamas! haha.

Dress by apartment, pearls, faux Burberry bag (oh, it's very fake) & nude Bandolina pumps.

Our bedroom- I have been working on the wall...I think it's finally getting there. Since we don't have a real head board I wanted to do a frame type thing.

I think it worked out well!...aside from the fact that there are no photos in the frames. lol. I want to put black and white pictures from our wedding. Until I get around to getting those this will do! Blank frames. :-p

Our bathroom...& me holding make-up brushes! : D Sometimes I think I try to be too creative. I like my outfit mainly because it's super comfy. Express button leggings, Target fluttery top, Banana Republic heart necklace (I have actually had it since college) & Enzo Angiolini black pumps.

We went for a black, white & red theme in the bathroom. I just found the red reeds at Michael's today. What do you think b/c I feel like I am unsure about the way they look.

The little glass jars are actually from our wedding (candy buffet)...now I use them for bathroom things! It's a little touch that I really appreciate.

Love a good set of make-up brushes.

Our new kitchen has so much more space. Yay for cabinet and counter space! The glass canning jars I use for cooking utensils are from our wedding centerpieces. Love them!

Itsy Bitsy Bettinis

It is officially time for summer fun! YAY! My favorite time of the year is finally here. One thing I desperately need is a little refresher in the bathing suit area. I have a couple of suits, but I definitely feel the need for some new looks that I can sport in the sun. :) You can never have enough suits, right?!

I was told about a certain swim wear line, Bettinis (thanks, Monica!). This line was created by Bettina Bell. Does the name ring a bell? For those of you who watch The Bachelor (Oh, I am addicted) you may remember a certain beauty, Bettina ( above). Well, look what she has done! She may not have won love on the dating show, but she sure does seem to be kicking bum and taking names now with her own bathing suit line.

The hubby & I went on a cute little date for ice cream this past Friday. We were pleasantly surprised by a live band outside the ice cream shop. It must be a spring/summer thing they do...it was really nice to sit by the fountain, with lots of people around, and enjoy music and ceam ceam (our word for ice cream).

I had Matt take pictures...even though it was a bit embarrassing & random to have him snapping pics of me with everyone around. You know, you don't want to feel like your a tourist taking pictures of everything (haha). I am trying to take pictures whenever we go somewhere interesting so that I can continue to make this blog more personal. I got a lot of positive responses from my last couple of posts! Thanks, btw!

It's easy to have a good time when you have such a hunk to hang out with ;).

Check out my denim dress from Urban Outfitters. LOVE it. It has zipper pockets & the coolest open back (see pic below!).

Here's the band! To be honest, they sounded like elevator jazz music (heh). It was still nice to hang out & kind of listen to them while we were eating our ice cream. Live bands, outside, during the Spring...no matter what type are hard not to enjoy at least a little bit, right?!

See the back of my dress? It is too cute. Don't tell anyone (shhh), but I got it on E-bay! I love to find steals on E-bay that you would usually pay three times as much for.

Lazy Sundays...

Lately one of my favorite pastimes has been to go to this trail near us in Ballantyne, NC. It is such a nice walk...kiddies & doggies everywhere, people cycling...all good things which remind me that Spring is here & Summer is soon to follow. Yay!

So the hubby & I...with chi chi in tow headed for a nice Sunday walk at the trail today.

Roxy, the chi chi, was a trooper & walked almost the whole way (3 miles!). My hubby likes to be in charge of walking her on the leash b/c he "knows how to remain calm and direct a dog" (yes, I quote).

iPhone you are my new best friend (I also love you, my new skinny studded belt!) I just got my first iPhone yesterday (the hubby finally talked me into it) & since then I have been GLUED to it. I can even blog from my phone! Yipeeee! That'll be a lot of fun.The apps are wonderful too b/c I got fashion ones that will really give me inspiration (if you have an iPhone...make sure to try out some fashion apps).

Anyways, enough about the iPhone & its wonderfulness. The past couple of days I have been thinking all about accessorizing. I have never been big on wearing jewelry or headbands, etc...lately it's been hard to escape them! There are sooo many lovely designs in headbands, necklaces, earrings and so on. I have seen the cutest little things that could really spice up a look.

The bib necklace...big right now. There are many different styles...I found some good ones at Forever21.

The Belt

I was wearing a belt this past Easter weekend & I thought, "Wow, I really do love belts". They are so much fun to wear! I think that wherever I am my eye is instantly drawn to belts...I especially love finding unique ones that may add a little chic funk to my wardrobe. I have some favorite belts in my wardrobe & here they are!...they might give you ideas...Maybe. I don't know :).

I just recently bought this belt from Target. I saw it & HAD to buy it (it was cheap too!). I love the brown & the gold studs...I can't wait to wear it all the time this Spring & Summer.

Yet another Target belt (I like chic affordability!). I like how red it is & how big the buckle is. It makes any outfit pop!

I actually got this cute belt at a thrift store! I could not pass it up...with it's turquoise & gold buckle...LOVE.

This is my only belt that was over $20...Banana Republic leather belt. I have had this belt for over two years & I still love it as much as the day I bought it. I think I will be wearing this belt for as long as it permits.

Renee's Boutique & Consignment- Frugal Finds for the Fashion Forward!

I recently got in touch with Renee, owner of Renee's Boutique & Consignment in Great Barrington, MA (I know her from college...we graduated from the same university). When I found out that she had recently opened her own consignment boutique I had to feature her!

Who isn't looking for a more frugal way to shop for clothes these days? I know I am. When I get the chance to shop I am constantly looking for sale items and deals. This is where consignment shops can step in and save your budget & give you your fashion fix. At consignment shops you can find designer items that may have only been worn once or twice (or maybe even never)at a much lower price than retail.

This is what Renee's boutique is all about. I will let her tell you all about it!

*Give me a brief introduction of your self: I am 25, married, and was SO ready to start my own business. I graduated with my bachelors just in Business Administration hoping to someday open some sort of shop of my own. I was most recently working for an insurance company in claims and getting no satisfaction out of it whatsoever, so I decided it was time to open shop.

*When did you first know you wanted to open a boutique/consignment shop?: I started selling on Ebay when Ebay really started to take off when i was only a junior in high school back in 2000. I loved the idea of second hand clothing. I used to have "trading parties" with my friends and I was like, what if people all over the country or world could do this! Ebay was a kind of way to do that. So I sold on ebay for the last 10 years, and it even helped pay some of my way through college. I would sell my own things or my friends, or even things from tag sales. I knew someday I would want to do it for a living, and wanted a store to have more a face-to-face business, not just online. I believe people really excel at things are sucessful in life with the things they are most passionate about. So it was time for me to really do something I was passionate about.

*Do you have any favorite designers that you like to carry?: I wanted to carry a lot of the brands that you would go to the mall and get, and just have the prices be at least half of what they would be at the mall. So we carry common brands such as Express, Ann Taylor Loft, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, The Limited, Martin Osa, Hollister, etc. We like to say "Get Designer Clothing without the Designer Prices!" I wanted a nice range of affordable clothing along with higher end things. So we also carry designer jeans and handbags such as 7 for all mankind, AG, Rock & Republic, Citizens for humanity, Lucky Brand, True Religion, Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Vera Bradley, Etc. So for those brand shoppers out there- they can get a really great item at a great price!

*How did you get to this point...in opening your boutique?: Ebay, paypal, and shipping fees got outrageous and I wasn't doing as well on ebay anymore but I still had a passion for what I was doing. I knew I wasn't cut out for the corporate world either. The economy was in a slow decline and at the same time the country was starting a major focus on "Thinking Green". I wasn't going to let my business degree go to waste, and well...everything (all those things I just mentioned) just seemed to point at me starting my own consignment boutique! With the support of my parents and my husband I quit my job ( a scary thing in an economy like this) and opened shop! I wanted to do my part in helping people make and save money (part of our logo is "Think Green! Save Green! Make Green!) and it truly was recycling made-chic as I always say!
My mother is my full time employee and we do it all together. It is a great chance for us to both do something we love and are passionate about and also to spend time together!

Target has always been known for its affordability but not always its ability to keep up with the new fashions, BUT it really is starting to catch up. They are making the smart choice of carrying designer's special lines designed specifically for them. I was in Target the other day so that I could check out a new line I heard they are carrying by Jean Paul Gaultier(!). Exciting! A designer like that at Target?! My budget screamed with delight :).

I walked into Target and yes ma'am...it is true! JPG is found! Here are some of my faves that I saw and totally wanted to grab up and purchase.

I am loving the yellow dress on the left- Spanish Mustard Halter Dress. In this picture it shows some sort of under-sleeve thingy...I don't like that. I did like the dress by itself though! This yellow dress retails at about $59. I think its perfect for this Spring & Summer.

I don't know what the middle underwear/bikini bottom thing is all about (lol), but check out the other two! Light and flirty on the left & very cute Lace Trim Dress on the right (comes in different colors). Both of these retail around $34.99

The dress in the middle is actually separates put together! It is the Strapless Cloque Dress w/ the Faces Screen Print Top. I didn't think I would like those together, but it is growing on me! Very JPG. The dress retails at $59 and the top at $19.99.

The ensemble on the very right is super cute as well- Halter Eylet Dress w/ Pinstripe Vest ($29.99). It is more boho and fresh looking for the Spring/Summer. Cute cute cute!

Rania Salibi- Oscar Worthy Designer

I had the honor of having a phone interview with Miss Salibi. It really gives you a better idea of who she is!

* So tell me about yourself- when did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer? : I always wanted to design. Was into illustration, art and when I was younger I was into animation. I moved to Lebanon and that's when everything changed. I was glued to F tv (Fashion TV) most of my teen years. I graduated and then made my way to LA to go to design school. I graduated from design school in 2008 with honors. Everything took off from there! I traveled, did independent work and projects and now two years later…Oscar Design Challenge!

* What is your design style or where do you get your inspiration from? : So many things- everything around me. I am constantly thinking, designing in my head. Music and art (big art fan) inspire me. It really comes from everywhere. Eventually it unconsciously comes out in my designs…I start designing through my own eyes all that I have experienced.

*What was the first article of clothing you ever designed? : A hand bag when I was really young. I can’t really remember. I needed a bag so I tried to design one! Oh, I also worked with designer on my own prom dress! I initially became a designer because I couldn’t find anything in the market that I liked.

*What are some of your accomplishments as a designer? (aside from the obvious Oscar Design Challenge!): While in design school I won the TALA award. I was the only junior who has ever won that award.

*How did it feel to win the Oscar Design Challenge & see your dress on-stage at the Academy Awards? : It was amazing. I really didn’t think I would win! Very unexpected...a shock. Making this dress was a process. I knew I was getting into trouble because of the laser cut leather. Laser-cut leather is very rare to find and therefore, I had to design the fabric, had it cut myself- The whole design changed drastically from start to finish. It was a very big challenge...wasn't easy. I guess it all paid off in the end... (Me: Yeh, it did! You won! haha).

*What are you planning on working on next? : Hopefully should be getting a couple pieces out on my site so that people can look at them. Maybe collections to buy off of the website.

Miss Salibi was one of nine designers to take on the Oscar Design Challenge, a competition in which the designers needed to design an original gown which would be worn on-stage by a presenter at the Academy Awards. Rania's design won! It was on-stage for all to see on the live telecast of the Academy Awards! I jumped from my seat when I saw the presenter strut out with Rania's dress on. I am so excited for her & also love that I can feature her on my blog for all of you to see. (I e-mailed Rania this past week and she responded right away that she would love to be featured on my blog. She is not only a great designer, but also very nice as well! :)

As you can see, the dress is an exquisite strapless, form-fitting gown in silk and taffeta AND laser cut leather(!). Wow. Laser cut leather? You would think that the leather would make it appear somewhat stiff and immovable, but no! It was actually quite the opposite (as seen on-stage at the Academy Awards). The dress flowed extremely well & the entire design gave off an image of pure glamor. Not only is it a beautiful piece to behold, it also shows the designer's true talent and passion for designing. Laser cut leather...I love this.

Qui Qu' a Vu Coco- Coco Chanel

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”- Coco Chanel

I recently watched "Coco before Chanel", a movie made in 2009 based on Coco Chanel's life. I became very impressed with everything she ended up accomplishing once I learned of her history. Coco's mother died when Coco was very young and her father then abandoned her to the care of relatives. She adopted the name Coco during her brief work as a cafe and concert singer in 1905. She was able to open a millinery shop in 1910, which expanded throughout Paris and became popular for her simple hats for women. Soon Coco Chanel was expanding to couture, working in jersey, a first in the French fashion world. By the 1920s, her fashion house had expanded considerably, and her designs set a fashion trend with its "little boy" look. Her relaxed fashions and casual look were in sharp contrast to the corset fashions popular in the previous decades.

What really struck me in learning about Coco, or originally Gabrielle, was her simplicity. When usually thinking about Chanel I always pictured glam and ritzy ritzy when in fact it all really originated from nothing but men's dress shirts, slacks & jackets. Coco was able to take these simple articles of clothing and make them into something unique for women. The image below shows some of the boyish style that Coco took and made her own (it is also the cover to the movie I watched).

From her more humble beginnings in Paris, Coco has now become well known around the world. Although she passed in 1971, Coco's influence remains strong. Most of her fashions have had a staying power, and haven't changed much from year to year -- or even generation to generation.

So how do you dress Coco-ish?

It is truly hard for us budget-conscious women out there. I know I can't run into Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue and purchase Chanel. Oh no. My hubby would fall to the floor and die looking at that bank statement. There is a much easier way to dress Coco without breaking the bank. It is as simple as...simple!

Stick with simple styles- little black dresses, pumps (two-toned is very Coco Chanel), pearls (fake works!), chained handbags, boyish blazers, trousers, etc. Look at Target- http://www.target.com/ (black dresses), Forever 21- http://www.forever21.com/ (blazers & pearls) & even thrift stores! Very simple way to look extremely classy!

Leather, Leather Everywhere.

Alright ladies! Grab your leather jackets & jump onto that motorcycle! Leather is here this season! Ok, you can skip the last step, but do consider the leather jacket. It won't be a mistake.

When I first saw the leather popping back up, I thought "Oh, great...so Grease strikes back...on women?" It took seeing some very chic looking ensembles with leather jackets for me to see why leather is back now. It works. It's edgy. I like!

When I say leather jacket I do not mean any leather jacket. I have found a couple examples that seem to be flying off the rack.

This is a slouch neck, crossover leather jacket. This one's great with jeans, something casual. It can also be worn with a dress...such as the images below!

I found a lot of these jackets at Forever 21- http://www.forever21.com/. They are good for budget friendly wardrobes!...faux leather works!

Bomber jacket. Remind you of aviators and 1940's military men? Yah, that's where this style came from! Jeans & even dresses could make you look rockin' with this piece!

Sleek biker jacket. About hopping onto that motorcycle.............also great with jeans!

Celebrity inspirations (leather w/ jeans & dresses): Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Giselle Bundchen

So what do you think? I know that wearing a leather jacket might be stepping out of your "fashion comfort zone", but it could be so fun! Sometimes you just have to try something to find out that you really like it.

(It's completely up to you if you jump onto a Harley as well...b/c that could be fun too!)

The Scarf- tres chic!

Scarves are always in, in my opinion...but it does seem like they are making a big statement lately in the fashion world. You will find short ones, long ones, ones with patterns, some without, silky materials, etc etc...so many to choose from! I have found that on some days when I didn't know how to tie my outfit together I have grabbed a scarf, thrown it on and TA-DA!...I instantly added pizazz to my whole look. I guess the question now is how do you wear a scarf? Below I show you some examples on how scarves are being worn. You may find a style that really speaks to you.

Classic Brit- simple, clean & elegant. Take the scarf, double it over, wrap it around your neck and stick the end in through the loop. This style is really perfect with anything. You cannot go wrong!

Runway look-wrapped all the way around. This is a more dramatic style that I have seen on the runways. If you are a little more daring with your style, try it out! All you would need to do is continually loosely wrap a long scarf around your neck. When you run out of scarf, tuck the ends underneath to secure. The plus with this look is that it should keep your neck pretty warm! :)

Classic-loose loop in front (wrap scarf loosely around and tuck ends underneath big loop in front). A colorful/patterned scarf is best for this, b/c it is really becoming a major part of your outfit. I wouldn't pair it with a very colorfully patterned top...go more for a neutral or even a bold color that matches.

Boho fashion- loose, free and easy style. This is personally one of my favorite scarf looks. It is as simple as starting in the front, wrapping scarf around and then back to front...crossing in the back so that when you bring both ends to the front there is one on your left and the other on your right. This is a good look with jeans and big belts (like the picture!).

Now, scarves are not only for adorning your neck...scarves can also look amazing around your head! Go for more thin materials in scarves for this look, such as silks (you don't want a thick, winter scarf wrapped around you head. It might weigh you down :-p).

Classy, classy- this is simply lovely! I have yet to try this one out, but I want to! It reminds me of old, black & white movies starring Audrey Hepburn. Love it!

Start thinking of scarves as the cheaper, simple way to jazz up an outfit. They don't only work in winter either. They work in all seasons! All you have to do is have different types and work with the different styles...even come up with your own?

If "I have nothing to wear!" has ever escaped your lips, please read on! EveryONE has her own personal style, whether you think so or not. The key is "fine-tuning" that style to really find what suits you best. This also means you should be able to have a wardrobe that makes you say, "Oh yay! What do I get to wear today?!"

It isn't about the number of items in your wardrobe, it is all about the pieces you do have. Every woman is NOT the same...in fact, we are all very different when it comes to our body types. There are certain styles of clothing that will fit your form better than others. Below you will see the different body types that are typical for most women (Don't worry if you don't fit exactly in one type. It doesn't mean you're abnormal! lol. Pick the one you think is the closest to your shape).

Looking at these different body types it makes sense that you cannot put the same style or cut of clothing on each body type, doesn't it? For instance, one dress may look so amazing on one lady and then just so-so on another. I know, I know! It would be fabulous if everything looked good on everyone. There have been so many times I have seen a piece of clothing on a hanger and thought "Oh wow! That is soooo cute" and then after trying it on my attitude about it quickly changes to "Oh...nooooo. No. No. Noo." *stripping item off as soon as possible so I don't have to see the unflattering image in the mirror*.

This happens to EVERYONE. This does not mean that you just don't work with clothes. NO. Shhh. Not true. It only means you need to know what to look for. I always liked the saying, "don't let the clothes wear you, you wear the clothes". It is all about you, girlfriend. Make your wardrobe work for you. So how do you go about doing this? I might be able to help.

First, determine your body type. Second, find your body type below. I have posted tips and examples of clothing items that will flatter your figure!

Banana Shaped

DO:

Wear knee length a-line skirts.
Chose jeans, pants, and skirts that sit below your waist.
Look for tops with ruffles, large prints, or detailing.
Add fun necklaces and scarves to your outfit.
Jackets with a cinched waist will give you more of an hourglass shape.
Wrap dresses look wonderful on you.

Don't:

Do not wear tight clothing that will accentuate your lack of curves.
Stay away from vertical lines.
Do not wear high waist pants or skirts - these do not help create curves. Quite the opposite on you.
Avoid wearing loose fitting tops and dresses. Remember the goal is to create shapes, not hide them.
Jackets that end at your waist are not a good choice since they do not help to define your waist.

   DO:

Pants and skirts with a flare will help draw attention to your lower body, balancing out your upper body.
To elongate your body, wear longer tops that end over your hips. Pair this with pants that taper out.
Wear darker colors on top, brighter clothes on your lower body.
Chose wrap shirts and wrap dresses.
V necked tops draw the eye in and away from your shoulders.
Belted jackets, dresses, and tops help your waist to look smaller.
High heels help to elongate your body.

Don’t:

Avoid tops with puffy sleeves.
Pleated pants will only add inches to your waist.
Pants that taper in towards your ankle should be avoided as they only make your top half look larger.
Tops that are busy with a lot of detailing, or too tight should not be worn.

DO:

Wear brighter colors on top, and darker colors on bottom.
Pants should be a straight leg.
Chose tops that have ruffles, or interesting details to draw attention away from your lower body.
Empire waist dresses are a good choice for accentuating your smaller top half, and hiding your wider lower body.
A-line skirts are your best choice.
Wrap dresses work well with your figure.

Don’t:

Do not wear pants that taper in at the ankles. This will make your hips look even larger.
Jackets that end at the widest part of your hips.
Tuck in your shirts – this creates a boxy look with your shape.
Pencil skirts should not be worn.

Hour Glass

Do:

Pencil skirts.
V-neck tops (but not too low cut) will draw attention to your face.
Wrap dresses will accentuate your beautiful curves.
Short fitted jackets.
Tailored pants with slight flare at bottom.

Don’t:

Wide belts
Shapeless tops – they do not accentuate your waist, and add weight to your body.
Empire dresses & tops.
Short skirts will visually cut your body into small pieces.
Baggy pants will only add extra weight.
